Spotted / Mendocino, CA / Blue Door Inn
The rugged Mendocino coast has become a favorite of mine to explore this year. In the heart of town are charming little Victorian cottages sprinkled throughout, including this one from my most recent stay: the Blue Door Inn. Sweet and stylish, it’s the perfect place to escape with your special someone. And it’s within stumbling distance to all the cafes, restaurants and shops around town. After a day of exploring, you simply can’t wait to return to the inn—whether it’s to retreat to your beautifully appointed room or to relax in the gazebo and surrounding gardens. There are chocolate chip cookies on a platter to enjoy throughout the day and a 4:30 wine service with small bites in the common rooms. And the best part: after enjoying a restful night’s sleep (in the most luxurious bed, I might add) is waking up to an incredible breakfast basket delivered right to your door. Ours included eggs with pearled couscous, a fruit and fennel salad, homemade granola, and warm strawberry chocolate scones. If I had to choose a place I’d return to in Mendocino, it’d surely be this one.
