Spotted / West Marin / Food & Farm Tours
Perhaps my favorite region to explore within proximity of San Francisco is West Marin, and specifically, the area of Point Reyes. An hour drive from the city, you’ll encounter the most picturesque views and farmlands dotted along the Pacific. I’ve frequented Point Reyes many times but never have I had a more insider view into the food, farms, folks, culture and history of this region. And with Spring around the corner (and baby goats and lambs just born!), it’s the perfect time to visit.
A culinary trip with Food & Farm Tours is a great way to get access to these farms while enjoying the best foods produced in the region. Led by Elizabeth Ann Hill, a certified Natural Chef, gardener, educator and local of West Marin, she provides authentic culinary experiences that connect guests to the heart and soul of West Marin. These are very small group tours with intimate access to the farms and artisan food producers. I was on the Cheese Lovers Tour and we tasted all the varieties at Cowgirl Creamery, then visited Tomales Farmstead Creamery (for goat and sheep’s milk cheeses) and Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese Co. (for cow’s milk cheeses). We also toured the properties, and as you can see, got real close to many of our farm friends, too. This was a terrific all day adventure.
