Spotted / Emeryville, CA / Handcraft Studio School
If you’re looking to learn a new craft (or hone an existing one) and want to know where many of the best Bay Area makers are teaching, you’ll find plenty at Handcraft Studio School in nearby Emeryville. Operating for two years now, Berkeley native and former teacher Marie Muscardini fulfilled a dream of opening a permanent space for creating beautiful things and bringing the community together. Prior to opening the studio she had hosted a number of crafting evenings and continuously saw the joy it brought to everyone involved. And I couldn’t agree more. Working with my hands while chatting with new friends, then leaving with something I created is so rewarding, relaxing and so much fun. Most workshops are held on the weekends with an occasional one on the weekday. You can see the lineup here, but check in regularly for class updates and sign up quickly as they fill fast. So far I’ve taken wooden spoon carving with Windy Chien, ceramic spoon making with Jennifer Lake, and sat in on a block printing session with Jen Hewett. Perhaps I’ll try my hand at shibori or weaving next.
