Spotted / Chicago, IL / Heritage Bicycles
First thing I wanted to do once I landed in Chicago was to park myself in a charming little cafe and folks recommended I trek over to Heritage Bicycles in the Lakeview area. This unique concept shop offers custom (and entirely made in Chicago) bicycles, gear and accessories, as well as coffee, tea and pastries. Owned by Mike Salvatore (who I had the pleasure of meeting while I was there) and his wife Melissa, they designed this community-oriented space that allows individuals to sit and enjoy some food and drink, read, work, spark up conversations with new people around you, shop, ask questions about the bicycles, and watch as they’re being assembled. You can also test ride the bicycles around the neighborhood, too. I wasn’t in the market to purchase a new bike, but I did meet their helmet expert who gave me all the great insight on choosing the right protective head gear and this will come in handy once I get my own set of wheels here in SF. Not only do they make bikes for us big kids, they make them for the little ones, too. I’ll be sharing that shop with you tomorrow.
