Spotted / Reykjavik, Iceland / Reykjavik Drapers Union
If there is one shop that truly stood out for me in Reykjavik it would have to be the Reykjavik Drapers Union. Located on the main street Skólavörðustígur leading up to the big church is Aaron Bullion’s studio where he handcrafts a handsome line of canvas and leather goods, including wallets, cases, aprons, bags, and other custom pieces. All the materials he uses are local, including fabrics sourced from the marine industry. You can stop by the studio to admire examples of his work, but you can’t actually purchase any of the items and walk out the door. Everything is pre-ordered then individually made for you to pick up later. I ordered a gorgeous leather slipcover iPad case several days in advance and picked it up just before making my way to the airport. The piece I most admired was a leather chair he made in collaboration with the folks at the esteemed Dill restaurant. In addition to their seating, he also designed their aprons and leather placemats.
