A couple of weekends ago I popped into this new Greek place in SF that folks have been raving about. It’s called Souvla and it is definitely now my go-to spot when I’m in Hayes Valley. It’s casual, offers an easy + affordable menu, and it’s tasty! And as you can see from the pics above, the space is very open, bright and amazingly designed, too. Brought to you by Charles Bililies (former culinary assistant to renowned chefs, Thomas Keller and Michael Mina), Souvla offers a trio of spit-fired meats that can be prepared as either a sandwich or a salad. You can add on some side dishes (like fries drizzled with olive oil, lemon, oregano and mizithra cheese), but you MUST save room for dessert, too. They have frozen Greek yogurt which can be topped in four ways: with wildflower honey, sour cherry syrup, olive oil + salt, or with crumbled baklava (my favorite!) And lastly they have Greek beer and wine to complete the meal; the latter they serve in copper cups.
