Spotted / California / Big Sur / Deetjen’s Big Sur Inn
This has to be the most charming spot in all of Big Sur. Welcoming guests since the 1930s, this historic and rustic European-style gem offers quaint little rooms and one standalone cabin for overnight stays. The most delicious breakfasts and dinners are served in the main house, and each of the four dining spaces is filled with delightful details throughout. If the weather permits, you can also enjoy brunch outside under a canopy of wisteria, as we had last weekend. The inn is booked for the entire season, so be sure to call way in advance for a reservation. Or just stop on in for a meal. The variety of eggs benedict options + the filled french toast are big hits on the brunch menu.

This is definitely on the list for 2014!
I definitely want to head back again myself:)
I’m so glad you posted this: the only place I’ve ever been to in Big Sur is Nepenthe. Never knew where else to go!
Randomly Nepenthe was the first place I tried. Great view but the food was not good. And it was overcrowded, too. Great for drinks though!!!!
Love this post. I regularly crave their eggs benedict w/ housemade smoked salmon.
I’m going to try and make it back one more time before it gets too cold. I’ll try dinner next!
But it’s so cozy when it’s cold with the fog misting around the old buildings and the smell of wood fireplaces in the air. There’s actually a small waterfall and old bench at the back of the property that is worth seeking out. Also: the yurts (Treebones) are cool, but they’re far from town and the onsite food is subpar (putting it nicely). Try the stylish refurbed cottages at Glen Oaks. Dinner is great at Bakery and of course Sierra Mar. And after a million visits, I’ve found the best success at Nepenthe is with the South Coast Margarita (despite horrible name) and roasted garlic app. Fun fact: If you sit on the back patio, friends can see you via their live web cam. And for the love of all that is right in the universe, don’t miss Partington Cove! Sorry for oversharing: I told you it’s my favorite place in CA.
Oh my this is good stuff! Thanks for the recos. Treebones is actually one I’m considering for a night’s stay for my birthday in November. I think I’ll still give it a try:)
Treebones is actually awesome given the setting. Don’t mean to dissuade you. Call ahead and try and snag #8, 9, 15 or 16. I actually wrote them down because I knew it would come in handy later.
Okay, I’m done, promise.
