Spotted / California / Pescadero / Pie Ranch
It’s a hard to resist a place like this, especially one called Pie Ranch.
So why is it called Pie Ranch? There are several reasons, but mainly the land it sits on is shaped like a slice of pie + the promise of “pie” encourages city dwellers, like myself, to visit. The farm stand is open Thursday-Sunday and visitors can purchase seasonal produce, fresh eggs, and some real tasty pies made by Companion Bakeshop in Santa Cruz, which uses ingredients (like fruit and wheat) grown on the farm. They are sold as either minis or wholes—and they are yummy!
In addition to growing food for local markets and pies, this farming community acts as a youth education center and offers apprentice programs to inspire the next generation of farmers and educators.

You stopped here! Nice! We drive down the coast pretty often (both of us are originally from Half Moon Bay) and have thought about stopping here before but haven’t. Great series.
I’m loving the results of your Pescadero trip. If you make it all the way to Santa Cruz next time, definitely check out Companion Bakeshop. They’re one of a few key spots in the burgeoning Westside food + craft movement. Their morning pastry lineup is a thing of beauty; the best thing this side of Tartine. Also have great Sunday brunch (savory brick oven breakfast pizzas) done in conjunction with Odonata Wines next door. Good folks!
Santa Cruz is definitely on the radar and thanks again for the suggestions, Garrick:)
