Meet the Makers 03: Farmgirl Flowers
I couldn’t think of a better way to kick-off spring than seeing all that’s in bloom at the San Francisco Flower Mart and spending a morning with the Farmgirl Flowers. I’m always looking for ways to explore a bit of creativity and found this fantastic floral arranging workshop hosted by Fullosophie. The morning was spent touring the flower mart with founding farmgirl Christina, who introduced us to some of the local growers she partners with to make her gorgeous bouquets. Unbeknownst to many of us, the greater majority of the flowers in the mart (and almost all places) are imported from other countries — hence why ordering flowers generally cost so much. And with all the arrangement varieties so many florists offer, many flowers end up going to waste. Christina and her team source the freshest and prettiest blooms from local growers, then create one beautiful and bountiful arrangement each day at an affordable price starting at $30 + tax and shipping. The bouquets are bundled in her signature burlap wrap or in a recycled/repurposed vase then delivered by bicycle or scooter. So not only are you getting a gorgeous arrangement, you’re doing your part to support local farmers and minimize the impact on our environment. I will be placing many, many orders with these sweet gals from now on.
So that’s a brief highlight on what I learned at the workshop. Also that I’m horrible at flower arranging. I’ll leave this to the experts. These Farmgirls kindly worked their magic to make sure I went home with something pretty that day.
